This past July 30 the lifeless body of 20-year-old Bronx native Maylin Reynoso was found dead in the Harlem River. As horrific as the crime itself is, the lack of media attention around the death of the Dominican woman has equally shocked the urban community as it serves as a stark reminder about how the life of a person of color is valued in today’s society.

At a time when the recent murders of white female joggers Karina Vetrano and Vanessa Marcotte are headlining numerous mainstream media outlets, Reynoso’s tragic end has barely received a second look from those same news channels.

Some are speculating that Reynoso’s bipolar disorder and depression might’ve led to her taking her own life, but that’s still no excuse for the lack of interest on the part of reporters who are supposed to do their jobs and digging deep for information, leads, and maybe even possible suspects.

Exactly what they’re doing for both Vetrano and Marcotte.

But regardless of how her death is covered by the mainstream media, social media isn’t going to just brush Reynoso’s existence aside and many have taken to their Twitter accounts to not only remember her being but question why her death isn’t worth the attention that Karina Vetrano and Vanessa Marcotte garner on the daily.

Hit the flip to see what the Twitterverse has to say about the lack of media coverage and hope Maylin Reynoso’s death gets some closure.
