CNN political analyst Van Jones summed up the fear and angst many of us are feeling now that Donald Trump has been elected President. Donald, Trump.
Jones calmly and eloquently explained to Trump supporters and fellow CNN contributors Jeffrey Lord and Kayleigh McEnany why many people are scared.
“This was many things,” said Jones. “This was a rebellion against the elites, true. It was a complete reinvention of politics and polls, it’s true. But it was also something else. We’ve talked about everything but race tonight. We’ve talked about income, class, religion. What we haven’t talked about is race. This was a whitelash. This was a whitelash against a changing country. It was a whitelash against a Black president, in part. And that’s part of where the pain comes. And Donald Trump has a responsibility tonight to come out and reassure people that he is going to be the president of all the people who he insulted and offended and brushed aside.”
Jones noted it was a deeply painful moment and how we need to talk about race.
Trump did say he wants to be President of all of America in his acceptance speech. But we’ll have to wait and see about that.
