The Migos found themselves in a whirl of controversy after questioning the trap rap credibility of ILoveMakonnen, who recently hopped out the closet. The trio posted an obligatory apology on Twitter.

During an interview with Rolling Stone, Migos reportedly got uncomfortable when Makonnen’s name came up. Offset went as far as saying “That’s because the world is f*cked up,” when discussing the nuances of a trap rapper also being gay and still getting support.

Yes, this is when you may think about Omar from The Wire.

Plenty of outrage ensued, mostly on Twitter, and that’s where Migo issued their apology from their official account.

“We are all fans of Makonnen’s music and we wish he didn’t feel like he ever had to hide himself,” reads part of the statement. “We feel the world is fucked up that people have to hide and we’re asked to comment on someone’s sexuality. We love all people, gay or straight and we apologize if we offended anyone.”

Even Kellyanne Conway would be proud of that spin job. But the “we apologize IF we offended anyone” doesn’t sound too sincere.

Just saying.

Are you back to playing Culture now? Did you ever stop playing it?

Makonnen has yet to comment publicly.
