Chance The Rapper is backing up his $1 million dollar present to the Chicago Public School system by being present.

The rapper surprised students at Courtenay Elementary by popping up for their annual Career Fair. Needless to say, the young kids were more than excited. DNA Info talked to some of the students about it felt to have the hometown hero come to their school.

“I think it was really cool,” a nine-year-old named Gorgeous said. “When I first saw him I was like, ‘oh my god.’ I just wanted ot jump up … my whole class was excited.”

Chance addressed the entire school at once in the auditorium after lunch. But he also found some time to sit in on one of the classes.

This visit comes weeks after Chance donated $1 million to the Chicago Public School system to aid in after school programs and arts-related programming. The donation came after what he called a disappointing meeting with Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner where he tried to get the government to help CPS out.
