Seems like Warner Bros. is finally taking a step in the right direction with their DC film franchise. According to Variety, former Marvel cinematic mastermind, Josh Whedon is nearing a deal with the movie studio to write, direct, and produce a standalone film for Batgirl.

While most fans would’ve hoped the man who made The Avengers come to life had been tapped to take over one of the top three DC franchises currently in the works (Superman, Batman, Justice League), Josh seems good with breathing life into one of the most popular and recognizable superheroes who doesn’t have a Y chromosome.

But any true comicbook fan can see the bigger picture and look forward to the possibilities that come with Batgirl hitting the silver screen, especially since an all-female Suicide Squad known as Gotham City Sirens starring Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn is currently in the works.

Let us know if you’ll be looking forward to Gotham City’s Police Commissioner James Gordon’s daughter, Barbara, Hollywood debut.

Given DC’s track record thus far and John Whedon’s underwhelming final Marvel film, Avengers: Age of Ultron, we wouldn’t blame you if you weren’t.

But if anything this combination has “Redemption” written all over it.
