Kevin Hart is one of Hollywood’s biggest and brightest stars, but his road to riches wasn’t exactly a smooth ride and he could’ve easily ended up having more in common with Channing Tatum than you think.
Today (June 6) the wisecracking comedian stopped by The Breakfast Club to talk about his new book, I Cant Make This Up: Life Lessons, and talks about how he almost ended up twerking for dollars, his take on Bill Maher’s “house n*gger” comment, and of course his father.
Here are the 9 things we learned from Kevin Hart on The Breakfast Club.

1. Magic Kev?
When he was 18 years old, Kevin Hart was going to be a stripper just to make ends meet. At one point he even convinced his homie to be his stripping partner. It was his brother that snapped him out of that stripper’s mentality.
2. Patrice O’Neal

Kevin once walked in on comedic great Patrice O’Neal (R.I.P.) masturbating. Patrice slipped Kev $100 for the “inconvenience.”
3. No Hot Stuff
Kev’s mother didn’t let him or his brother keep anything their father gave them if she thought it was stolen.
4. Domestic Violence
Kevin once squared up on his ex during a fight, not to attack but to “counter” whatever she came with. That’s when he realized he needed to make a change.
5. Bill Cosby
Even though Bill Cosby was one of the many comedic inspirations in his life, he won’t step in and support him in this situation in which he doesn’t know how it’ll turn out.
6. Kathy Griffin
Kev doesn’t feel too bad for the backlash Kathy Griffin’s gotten saying she should’ve known something like that was going to garner lots of attention and rub some people the wrong way.
7. Bill Maher
As far as Bill Maher’s controversial “house n*gger” comment goes, Kev doesn’t think he’s a racist but does feel that for Bill to feel “as comfortable as you said it in a joking form, you wrong.”
8. Life Lesson
Kevin recognizes that if it weren’t for his father’s life mistakes, he wouldn’t be on point with his own life as he is.
9. Swimmin’ Not Drownin’
Kevin Hart was on a swimming team for 15 years and never won any kind of accolades. He does admit he didn’t take it too seriously and regrets not giving it his all. That in turns drives him to be as great as he can be at what he does now.
