While Nas is the most famous and revered rapper to come straight outta Queensbridge, many viewed Prodigy as the embodiment of that Queens thug life that dominated the airwaves in the mid to late 90’s. So it’s only right that a huge mural of the self-proclaimed H.N.I.C would go up just across the street from the infamous Queensbridge projects.
Artists Jeff Henriquez and Eli Lazare a.k.a. Eli-Eos, painted a portrait of the late QBC rapper on the side of Urban Upbound’s building on 13th street and 40th Avenue in Queens for all to enjoy and pay respect to.
In a statement obtained by DNAInfo the artistic duo said the mural was put up out of “love and respect” adding “His deep and meaningful lyrics inspired and influenced many young rappers and followers.”
For most of the late 90’s Mobb Deep were the epitome of New York gangsta rap whose tough as nails rhymes were riddled with deep and insightful lyrics that reflected an overstanding of the struggle that many in the urban community could relate to.
That being said, Albert Johnson, not only earned his moniker of Prodigy but he proved to be one throughout his rap career.
