Fans were excited to hear that principal photography for the highly anticipated Deadpool 2 had gotten underway. However, a pioneering stunt woman lost her life during a film sequence that went horribly wrong.

According to PageSix, Brooklyn-born Sequana Joi “SJ” Harris lost her life while performing her first stunt in which she lost control of her motorcycle which jumped a curb and smashed through the glass windows of a city office building.

Harris wasn’t a newbie to motorcycles by any stretch as she held the title of the first Black woman ever to compete in motorcycle road-race competitions.

Her manager said SJ was “over the moon” to have landed the opportunity to work in the upcoming blockbuster film, adding, ““This was her dream to be able to perform and ride on the biggest stage. She was ready. She was more than ready and prepared to go out there and give them the best she had to offer.”

Unfortunately, Harris wasn’t wearing a helmet at the time of the accident being that the character she was subbing for, Domino (played by Zazie Beetz), doesn’t wear a helmet in the script.

The Bed-Stuy born rider fell in love with motorcycles at an early age and in 2013 qualified for her racing license and has since made a name for herself competing at the American Sportbike Racing Association/Championship Cup Series.

Deadpool star Ryan Renolds released a heartfelt message on his IG page about the tragic event which took place during filming.

Rest in Power, SJ.
