On February 23, 2005 sneaker heads rioted when they couldn’t get their hands on one of the 150 pairs made of original Nike “Pigeon” Dunks. Designer Jeff Staples has revisited the design and the love for the shoe is still there.
Sold at a recent pop-up shop at Extra Butter on Tuesday, November 7, an estimated 500+ consumers lined up to cop. Staple was in the house to relive in some nostalgia and talked to High Snobiety about the release and what it means to the culture.
With the “Black Pigeon”, the iconic grey on grey colorway has been swapped out for an all-black palette with a contrasting orange outsole. The build out remains the same with a Nubuck and Stetson Water Proof leather upper. Additionally, it stays true to the skater aesthetic with the padded tongue. Lastly the infamous pink sneaker box was brought back for an added throwback touch.
For those who couldn’t make it to Extra Butta don’t fret. The Black Pigeon will see a global release on November 11 via select retailers at a $110.00 ticket. You can peep more pictures on the flip.
