Nicki Minaj has been making a lot of changes in anticipation of her debut album and according to published reports; her name may be the next to go.

In an interview with Trinidad newspaper Newsday, Nicki states that she is not a fan of the name Nicki Minaj and would much rather go back to her real moniker.

“I was always called Nicki at home so I was known as Nicki Maraj but my first producer [Fendi] did not like Maraj and thought Minaj sounded better,” Nicki said in the interview.

“I still hate the name and I was going to go back to Maraj on the album but people told me no because my fans like it.”

In addition, Minaj states that she is also working on switching her style up a bit to reflect her West Indian roots.

“I wanted a song that had a Trini sounding sound,” Nicki continued. “So I went and Googled Machel Montano’s “Congo Man” and I wanted it to be like that but we were not able to get it done. We will get it though, that was a start.”

As previously reported, with the release date of her debut album, Pink Friday, around the corner; Nicki has released the track listing to give fans a preview of what to expect from her upcoming album that is scheduled to be released on Nov 22nd.
