1. St. Louis, MO (381.62)

The FBI’s study shows that St. Louis has 2,070.1 violent crimes per 100,000 residents significantly higher than the national average of 429.4.

City officials are challenging the FBI’s claims however and say that the ranking is grossly misleading.

The spokeswoman for St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay says crime is down 7 percent this year and the spokeswoman for the St. Louis Police Department, Erica Van Ross, calls the findings irresponsible.

She tells the Associated Press,
“Crime is based on a variety of factors. It’s based on geography, it’s based on poverty, it’s based on the economy.”

St. Louis’ score is 381.62 compared to the safest city in America Colonie, NY which has a score of -82.49.
