Former Bad Boy Records artist G-Dep entered a not guilty plea in a New York city courtroom Thursday after previously confessing to murder.

As previously reported, Dep, real name Trevell Coleman, confessed to shooting a man and fleeing the scene when he was 18-years-old.

The rapper claimed he wanted a clean conscience when he came forward 17 years later but did not realize that the victim passed away.

Since his confession, he’s remained behind bars leading up to Thursday’s court proceedings.

The New York Post reports that Defendants generally plead not guilty early in their cases, even if they’ve confessed.

G. Dep’s lawyer tells The Post he plans to analyze the rapper’s statements and other evidence to see what charges he believes fit the case.
