Devar Hurd, an obsessed fan of Ashanti’s, harassed the R&B singer’s mother, Tina Douglas, by sending her explicit text messages and photos of his genitals. One example, printed in the NY Daily News, read, ‘Here’s a pic I had laying around for the ladies in sum of my birthday suit lol.’ Hurd also texted Douglas photos of the singer’s car and home.
Convinced Ashanti was in love with him, Hurd claimed to be using Douglas to get closer to the singer. He was eventually arrested, sentenced to jail time, and even diagnosed with a delusional disorder.
