Chicago Bulls Derrick Rose Named NBA’s Youngest MVP

At just 22 years of age, Chicago Bulls player Derrick Rose was named the 2010-2011 NBA Most Value Player on Tuesday, making him the youngest MVP in league history.

The Chicago point guard had a breakthrough season, leading the Bulls to a NBA best 62-20 record, while averaging 25 points, 7.7 assists and 4.1 rebounds.

Rose received 113 of a possible 123 first place votes, running away with the award.

Orlando’s Dwight Howard finished second, Miami’s LeBron James finished third, the Lakers’ Kobe Bryant was fourth and Oklahoma City Kevin Durant was fifth.

In an emotional acceptance speech on Tuesday, Rose praised his mother saying, “My heart. The reason why I play the way that I play. You keep me going every day and I love you and I appreciate you being in my life.”

The Chicago Bulls, the top seated team in the NBA playoffs, are currently down 1-0 to the Atlanta Hawks in their 2nd round playoff series.

Game 2 is Wednesday night in Chicago.
