Mara Brock Akil And Salim Akil To Create More Shows For BET

The famed husband and wife duo that created the BET hit series “The Game” is coming back for not only new episodes of the series, but to develop new shows for the network.

Creator/Executive Mara Brock Akil and director/executive producer Salim Akil have signed a multi-year deal with BET.

Under the new agreement, they’ll continue to produce episodes of The Game, which is being renewed for a fifth season.

Additionally new shows will be developed for Akil Productions, one of which is confirmed to be a series.

Speaking on their new agreement, the Akils released a statement saying,

“Our goal is to expand on our existing brand, by way of Akil Productions, to create new opportunities for ourselves and others. BET has provided us with a tremendous platform to create smart, funny and dramatic, quality programming with multi-layered and multi-dimensional characters appealing to millions of viewers.”

Salim recently made his feature film directorial debut with JUMPING THE BROOM, which stars Laz Alonso, Paula Patton and Angela Bassett and opened as the country’s #1 comedy.

His wife Mara created the series “Girlfriends” in 2000.
