Rihanna, 50 Cent Seek Bone Marrow Help For Infant
Rihanna, 50 Cent and Leighton Meester are fighting to help a New York baby in need of a bone marrow transplant.
According to the New York Daily News, the three celebrities were tested to see if they’re a match for 1-year-old Ayelet Galena, who suffers from a rare bone marrow syndrome called dyskeratosis congenita.
Rihanna, 50 and the “Gossip Girls” star are hoping their fans will join in and get tested in search of a bone marrow donor.
“It started out with Rihanna tweeting, and then I asked 50 Cent, he has helped us before,” said Katharina Harf, co-founder of DMKS Americas, a German bone-marrow donor center. “And then [Ayelet’s] dad got all these other artists and bands aboard.”
Pharrell Williams and rock band Linkin Park also joined in the efforts last month.
The one-year-old child will not survive without a bone marrow donor, and has a 60% chance of survival if she receives a bone marrow transplant.
We applaud Rihanna, 50 Cent and all other getting involved to help someone in need.
Ayelet Galena’s family and DKMS have organized a donor-registration drive for Sunday, which will take place from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., at the Jewish Community Center at 334 Amsterdam Ave in New York City.
in 2010, 50 Cent held a similar bone marrow drive to help Shannon Taverez, an 11-year-old Broadway actress suffering from leukemia.
