N.C. Man Allegedly Robs Bank of $1 To Get Health Care In Jail
“… I say, ‘I’ll be sitting right over here, on the chair, waiting for the police,'” Richard James Verone told reporters about the robbery attempt at a RBC bank in Gastonia, North Carolina.
The 59-year-old man handed a female teller a note demanding one dollar and claiming that he had a gun. The unarmed man sat on a couch and waited for police. Verone told reporters he has a growth in his chest, two ruptured disks and no job and hoped a three-year stint in prison would afford him the health care he needed.
The larceny charge will most likely award him a sentence no longer than a year if convicted. His court date is not until June 28th. Will this start a trend in the hood for health care if it works out for the N.C man? Listen to the emergency call.
