Michael “Killer Mike” Render is undoubtedly one of the most popular figures in modern Hip-Hop, using his vast intellect and presence in other areas outside of music as a speaker and activist. However, the Run The Jewels rapper is catching a bit of flak on Twitter for sitting down with the litigious Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp to discuss a myriad of issues important to residents of the state.
Gov. Kemp posted as a tweet on Wednesday (Sept. 9), highlighting a meeting with Killer Mike and First Lady Marty Kemp that focused on bolstering the small business community and music industry and also addressing human trafficking in the state.
“Today, Marty and I had a great meeting with @KillerMike. We discussed how small businesses and the music industry are weathering the pandemic, the value of our skilled trade workers, and our fight to end human trafficking in Georgia. We look forward to seeing him again soon,” Kemp wrote in the caption of the tweet with photos of Render and himself.
Thursday morning (Sept. 10), Killer Mike’s name began trending with users blasting him for meeting with Kemp while alleging that the governer stole the gubernatorial seat from Stacey Abrams by removing Black voting tallies.
As it stands, Killer Mike has been catching a significant amount of static from Twitter who believe that he’s being played as a pawn, not unlike what some felt with Mike’s earlier endorsements of the NRA.
However, Mike is addressing the criticism head-on and a quick scan of his Twitter feed highlights that he isn’t backing away from what’s being said about him.
“Absolutely. I pay taxes in Georgia and own business there. I’m checking up on my dollars At work. I also meet with my city council member, state rep and mayor.! I suggest all Georgians do the same,” Mike fired back at one critic.

Also please post your efforts so I know I’m talking to a ln ally not a Wanna be “Master”. https://t.co/61xpd5WLNF— Killer Mike (@KillerMike) September 10, 2020
Some of my issues: “Blacks In Ga” having more than 2% of state contracts while making up 35% of the state. Black men and boys getting free trade school vs building more jails. A justice system than deals with children’s trauma vs jailing them. U need better “issues”. https://t.co/tJlx4Lp2zz— Killer Mike (@KillerMike) September 10, 2020
After I sought counsel from Community activists That I know and have worked with over 20 yrs, black judges and lawyers, black Biz leaders and my neighbors I absolutely did. https://t.co/YleKTOS9nH— Killer Mike (@KillerMike) September 10, 2020
If they did now that he has the job he gotta deal with me and we pushing them line for us. Also if u not gonna storm the capital and overthrow Ga’s government I suggest u get involved by contacting ya state reps, local politicians and getting in their face ASAP to help. https://t.co/5GHBDO4FSc— Killer Mike (@KillerMike) September 10, 2020

What is Killer Mike supposed to do? Sit down and complain on Twitter all day like we do? Or take action from within the system and try to achieve something for his community. pic.twitter.com/wNh6RqE11f— Anyo (@Anyoli) September 10, 2020
Killer Mike attempting to brand himself as the Reasonable Negro™ by meeting with a white man who stole an election from a Black woman and then denied the impact of COVID. Very reasonable 🤧 https://t.co/BQn7h0pCwi— Jouelzy (@Jouelzy) September 10, 2020
A governor who stole an election from a black woman being able to use Killer Mike as a prop is a terrible look 🥴🥴🥴 https://t.co/oAcgE5O3B7— UH82CIT 🙃 🇳🇬 (@PrinceHAK33M) September 10, 2020
Y'all not going to start the morning slandering killer Mike. Fuck this app. Y'all dumb. You gotta get in the office first to make changes. He knows what he's doing. Wtf have y'all done with your lives. pic.twitter.com/sKie6l2TSL— beep boop (@cordialfall) September 10, 2020
Killer Mike had a sit down with the Governor of his state and he’s now considered a “sellout” pic.twitter.com/eTRts9WLPV— KT (@HailToTheReds) September 10, 2020
I blame Bernie for Killer Mike. That was not a voice that should’ve been amplified.— lay 🌻 (@geezlais) September 10, 2020
You stole a whole election and suppress black votes. You’re a cheater and shouldn’t be the governor. You do Trumps bidding by sueing a black woman over a mask. Then backtrack the lawsuit. I wouldn’t meet with him. This is a photo opportunity. Killer Mike 🤦🏾♂️ https://t.co/MqvPQx9zel— D.Bradley (@iamdbradley) September 10, 2020
Killer Mike showed y'all who he was with the NRA, tryting to rationalize Candace Owens at the revolt summit & a plethora of other things. If you still riding for him & that mentality then ride on. For the rest of us, we gotta understand imperfect allies & keep them at arms length— Openly black to the future (@DapperAlexander) September 10, 2020
