After several delays, motions, filings and false starts (eight years worth to be exact), the “Big Pimpin” lawsuit has reached a ruling. Thankfully for those who tend to side with the artists, defendants Jay Z and Timbaland have emerged victorious.
A 1960s Egyptian singer’s estate, who has been trying to hold Jay Z and Timbaland responsible for stealing a song to make their 1999 smash hit, “Big Pimpin’,” will finally get its day in court.
Hip-Hop typically associates the phrase “Big Pimpin” with a certain Brooklyn MC and a couple Texas legends, but today, it’s repackaged by Memphis’ rising star June. The newcomer is joined by fellow southern wordsmith, Big K.R.I.T.
