Dave Chappelle
We don’t really think Dave Chappelle went crazy, he just had enough of the foolish game that is stardom-but nonetheless he still deserves a spot on the list. After the success of Chappelle’s Show garnered him a $50 million contract from Comedy Central, Chappelle surprised everyone by walking away from the money and the public eye. In 2006 he sat down with Oprah to explain it all. “I wasn’t crazy but it was incredibly stressful,” he said. “When you’re a guy who generates money, people have a vested interest in controlling you.”
Now that he’s had a few years to chill out, one can only hope that he’ll pick up the comedy thing again—on a full time basis. No pressure though.
