Stephen Marley Posts Bond on Home to Free Buju Banton

Reggae star Buju Banton has bbeen released on bail after serving nearly a yearly in jail on drug charges.

As previously reported,  Banton, whose real name is Mark Myrie, was  granted bail in in October the amount of $250,000 and as a condition of his release must participate in and pay for 24-hour security to ensure he didn't leave his home except on emergency visits to his doctor or lawyer.

Banton was arrested for allegedly participating in a scheme to buy large quantities of cocaine from an undercover police officer. In October , a jury deadlocked on charges of conspiracy to possess and distribute coke and a firearm charge that could have put Banton behind bars for life.

Banton, who said he had no real intentions of either buying or selling cocaine, said that he only told the undercover agent of the plan to impress him because he believed the agent had good contacts in the music industry.

Stephen Marley, the son of reggae legend Bob Marley, bailed him out.  Marley posted equity in his own home as bond -- $300,000 worth.

Buju Banton's driver and another friend plead guilty and testified against Buju during his trial.
