The racism behind America's first Black president continues. Select businesses in the state of Georgia are building a reputation for defaming President Obama due to the color of his skin, the latest of which is a bar in Marietta.
Mulligan's Food & Spirits has come under fire for adding the statement “I heard the White House smelled like collard greens and fried chicken,” to its pitiful marquee, and a civil rights group has had enough of the disrespect. Last week, the New Order National Human Rights Organization announced plans to boycott the establishment.
Gerald Rose, founder of NONHRO, sent an email to different news outlets, explaining the reasoning for the protest:
"As African Americans we UNDERSTAND the meaning of FREEDOM of SPEECH, and we can also SEE when people ABUSE that RIGHT just to show their IGNORANCE! The Mulligan's Restaurant is NOT a STRANGER in DISPLAYING their HATE toward ANYONE that's ou...tside of their own race. So, being the case Gerald E. Rose and New Order will be holding a PRESS CONFERENCE on THIS TUESDAY at 11:00am at the Mulligan's Food & Spirits. As a race we have come TOO FAR to GO BACKWARDS, and instead of REMAINING SILENT our VOICES will be HEARD!"
The bar has a long been popular for spreading racist views. Former owner, Mike Mulligan, who died last year, was the man behind several disgusting signs in front of the business which also made fun of Latinos and Muslims. He was also known to wear a T-shirt depicting the president as a monkey. After he passed, his daughters took over the business and picked up where he left off with racially insensitive statements.
