Hector "Macho" Camacho was shot in Puerto Rico, Tuesday (Nov. 20), TMZ reports. Sources revealed that the former boxer sustained several gunshot wounds while riding in the passenger seat of a car at around 7 p.m.
The driver of the car was reportedly killed in the attack.
Camacho was shot in the face and neck after another car rolled up on his vehicle and opened fire. A bullet struck the 50-year-old in the jaw, went through his head, hit him in the right shoulder, and fractured two vertebrae.
He was transported to Centro Medico hospital where he has been listed in critical condition. "Camacho's condition is extremely delicate," hospital director Dr. Ernesto Torres told reporters. "His physical condition will help him but we will see."
Steve Tannenbaum, Camacho's rep, is assured that the former world boxing champion will survive. "This guy is a cat with nine lives. He's been through so much," he said. "If anybody can pull through it will be him."
Police have yet to make any arrests in the incident.
Throughout his career Camacho has fought in high profile bouts against the likes of Sugar Ray Leonard, Felix Trinidad, and Julio Ceasar Chavez.
