Nicki Minaj went through the motions in 2012. After releasing the first version of her Pink Friday: Roman’s Revenge album, Queens, N.Y.’s only Barbie shunned the spotlight, deleted her Twitter account, and threatened to wash her hands with the game all together.
A week later that phase was over.
Minaj’s emotions, although nothing new in the celebrity world, showed that the 29-year-old was cracking from all the pressure. No matter whose style she allegedly jacked, being Hip-Hop’s top female rapper come with lots of notoriety tons of responsibility and a whole lotta’ hate. The Trini rapper maneuvered through the digital attacks in the Twittersphere, jumped into reality TV, and dared the public to respond.
Finally she could have her own say, and give fans— and everyday spectators— a bird’s-eye view into a life that’s as busy as some of the bright pink patterns she’s known for. Nick Minaj: My Truth premiered as a three-series reality program, of which she stands as executive producer. My Truth shows Minaj in all facets: nice, mean, happy, sad, silly, confusing, delusional, sleepy…but the question remains: what does Nicki Minaj want us to know?
