Spike Lee Directs & Stars In “The King Of New York” Spot For The NBA’s BIG Campaign [VIDEO]

Spike Lee talking about basketball and the New York Knicks will always be entertaining. For the latest spot in the NBA’s BIG campaign, the renowned director stars and directs a commercial called “The King Of New York” that praises NBA great Bernard King.

“This is a story about BK from BK, begins Spike, dipped in Knicks gear, of course. “Bernard King from Brooklyn, New York!” While riding around in the back of a car, Spike recalls being in Madison Square Garden the night Bernard King dropped 60 points on the New Jersey Nets on Christmas Day in 1984. Coincidence that he brings this up considering the new found rivalry between the Nets and Knicks? Probably not.

“He was giving the Nets the business!,” says Spike of King Bernard, before saying, “And you know what, you never know who’s going to wear the crown next, while the screen pans to a shot of a mural of current Knicks superstar Carmelo Anthony. Recently, at the launch of the Air Jordan XX8, Spike was speaking to Carmelo Anthony and the All-Star forward revealed that his favorite player of all-time is Bernard King.

Also worth noting, the music playing in the background is Public Enemy’s “Get Up Stand Up” from the group’s Most of My Heroes STILL Don’t Appear on NO Stamp album.   Watch Spike Lee’s “King Of New York” spot below.
