J.R. Smith Tests Positive For Marijuana, Suspended 5 Games By The NBA
J.R. Smith just took a loss, and the NBA season hasn't even started yet. The 2013 Sixth Man of the Year has been suspended the first five games of the season for violating the NBA's drug policy.
Smith tested positive for marijuana, reports Yahoo Sports. The NBA announced Smith's suspension today (September 6).
Despite a great regular season with the New York Knicks, the high scoring guard played poorly during the playoffs. Nevertheless, the New Jersey native signed an $18 million, three year contract extension with the Knicks in July. Soon after he underwent knee surgery that will probably keep him sidelined during the very beginning of the new season.
Earlier this week, the Phoenix Suns voided the contract of Michael Beasley after he was arrested in August for marijuana possession.
