Wale Opens Up On Tumblr About Brushes With Media, Focus On Music
Wale has made headlines lately not for his musical output, but for brushes with the media and his online antics. Although the D.C. rapper has never been shy about sharing his emotions, Wale opened up even more in a letter he posted to his Tumblr account on Wednesday.
Wale’s open letter addressed from the onset his absence from Twitter and social media, writing he was trying to get a “better understanding” of himself and his role in the music business. From there, Wale poured out his feelings and bravely spared little.
From Wale’s Tumblr:
What I’ve come to grips with is the fact that I am not superhuman, BUT super human. I think our culture has made it almost a prerequisite to be “too cool” or “swagged out” carrying a “nothing can phase me” image. It’s to the point that the ones who show they care, get attacked the most.
I went through stages of frustration in my career with publications because of my own selfishness and sense of entitlement. I admit that. Nevertheless, I think if we calling a spade a spade, some media outlets be on they bullsh-t with me for reasons outside of music. But, my goal moving forward is to focus less on THEM and more on US.
In his plea to change his ways and to focus more on his art, Wale wasn’t too shy to state that he’s one of the best rappers in the game today but wants to get back to pleasing his supporters. He even spoke to this who may find fault with his actions and past rants, stating that he’ll try to focus on creating music for them to enjoy as well.
Wale, in his words, is using this moment as his “ ReRE -Dedication” to being an artist first. Time will tell if he remains true to that.
Is Wale getting a bad rap from the fans and publications? Do you think he’ll stick to his new philosophy? Let us know in the comments.
