Le1f, an openly gay rapper and producer based in New York, has been slowly growing his brand after a string of mixtapes and a pair of EPs. After releasing his latest project, Hey, this week, Le1f graced the stages of The Late Show with David Letterman in his network television debut.

Le1f is no stranger to the game, having produced tracks for the now-defunct Das Racist group, and working alongside Mykki Blanco in past times. Le1f’s performance was especially groundbreaking considering Letterman’s show is connected to the CBS network, although the host wisely avoided mentioning the rapper’s sexual orientation.

Rocking a combination skirt and short combo, Le1f  performed his buzzing single “Wut” complete with the backing of a live band. After his set, Letterman punctuated the performance by focusing on the act itself and not other outlying factors.

“Le1f, everybody, Hey, that’s all you need to know,” said Letterman in closing out the show.
