The Boston Herald ran a political cartoon today (October 1) that made a racist reference to watermelon and President Barack Obama.

The cartoon is refers to Iraq War vet Omar Gonzalez hopping the fence and making it further into the the White House than initially reported.

Reports MediaIte:

In the cartoon, President Barack Obama is seen brushing his teeth in a restroom at the White House. In the background is a man bathing in a tub. “Have you tried the new watermelon-flavored toothpaste?” says the word bubble coming from the bathing man.

The caption below the cartoon: “White House invader got further than originally thought.”

To be sure, Colgate does produce a watermelon-flavored toothpaste — aimed at children, however.

Considering that Black people liking watermelon (which is delicious) is an age-old stereotype, the cartoon is clearly racist. Anyone saying otherwise is willingly ignorant or just lying to themselves.

Also, this not a one-time anomaly. See: 8 Racist Cartoons Targeting President Obama

How’s that whole post-racial America concept working out, though?
