Steve Harvey came under fire recently for selecting Paula Deen to be part of the television host’s mentoring camp for boys. Given Deen’s history with Black people the idea didn’t sit well with many, and Harvey has promptly responded to the criticism in his typically biting fashion.

On October 2, Deen was a guest on Harvey’s TV program in where it was announced that the southern cook will be hosting fatherless boys of all races from the camp in Savannah, Ga. and teaching them culinary skills. Harvey must have known that the selection of Deen as a mentor was going to bring about some chatter, and had this to say in regards to the flurry of comments.

“There has to be a good behind everything. If this woman…to me, I just know the good in her. That’s all I know. And it outweighs the bad by a landslide to me. Now, when you blog about me, put also in the blog — can you please type, right after you get through typing, that I don’t give a damn,” Harvey said.

Well, there you have it.

Harvey knew that having Deen on the show was going to stir up some controversy, and he offered his comments on why he invited her to his program. You can see his thoughts in the clip below.
