The late, great Dr. Maya Angelou is Black Excellence personified, this is not debatable. A new doc, Maya Angelou: And Still I Rise, captures the essence of the poet and activist—and dancer, singer and more.

Featuring archival footage of Angelou, the Bob Hercules and Rita Coburn Whack-directed film traces her growth and career via her own words and some of her closest friends including Lou Gossett, Jr., Cicely Tyson, Oprah Winfrey, Alfre Woodard, Common and many more.

The Sundance doc is due in theaters October 14. Watch the trailer below.
