The platform that gave some of today’s brightest comedic minds their start will finally get its’ own tribute. Netflix has just announced a Def Comedy Jam 25 special is in the works.

Launched by mogul Russell Simmons in 1992, Def Comedy Jam launched the careers of Chris Rock, Martin Lawrence, D.L. Hughley, Tracy Morgan, Monique and many other influential stand up performers. The iconic cable program will celebrate its’ 25 year anniversary this year.

Def Comedy Jam 25 will honor the show’s legacy by taking a look back at its’ conceptualization, behind the scenes happenings and overall impact. The special will feature Sommore, Steve Harvey, Tiffany Haddish and other top talent. Stan Lathan, Russell Simmons, Sandy Wernick and Jesse Collins will serve as executive producers. Def Comedy Jam 25 will air on Netflix in the Fall. A formal relaunch of the brand is scheduled for December on HBO.
