Man Born Without Right Leg Wins NCAA Wrestling Championship

Arizona State University wrestler Anthony Robles ended his perfect season with a victory over defending champion Matt McDonough of Iowa this past weekend.

The wrestler born with one leg claimed that his supposed handicap gave him an advantage leading to an undefeated season.

His use of crutches gives him a strong grip that he notes as being great for takedowns and turns.

Robles took up wrestling in his freshman year of high school, and now as a college senior he will graduate with a 122-23 record, which is in the top ten in school history.

The 125-pound weight class title winner gives credit to others for his victory,

“I want to thank my training partners and my family for supporting me and it wasn’t just me out there. I was doing it for all them, too. It feels great to be a national champion.”

Anthony never considers himself disabled and even though he’s the first wrestler with one leg to compete in Division I sports, Rohan Murphy, a wrestler who lost both of his legs at birth, wrestled for Penn State before going onto international power lifting competitions.
