Big Pun's Family Attempts To Get Street Named After Him Again

Family Of Late Bronx Rapper Renew Efforts To Have Street Named In His Honor

Big Pun was a hip-hop legend that didn’t reach his prime before his untimely demise back in 2000 from a heart attack.

Big Pun’s sister, Nicole Rodriguez, wants to have East 163rd St. and Rogers Place in Longwood dubbed “Big Pun Place.”

“I feel I owe this to my brother…He was not only my brother, he was a father figure. He stepped in when my parents couldn’t. So I want to push for this. He deserves it.”

She has been collecting signatures at since February 21st and has received 1200 so far.
The first attempt to get the street named was thwarted by the city when they claimed Big Pun’s lyrics were “racy and violent.”

Pun’s mother, Gail Tirado, defended her son’s music stating,

“He also talked about struggles, about family life, about strife, about poverty and overcoming,” she said. “He rapped about reality. He spoke the truth.”

Tirado and Rodriguez will go before Community Board 2 next month to plead the case and hopefully give Pun what his sister hopes would be a visual cemetery since his body was cremated and there’s no place to visit him.

If you love Big Pun, feel free to add ya name to the list.

I would rather see a street sign for HURRICANE G!

A father figure that beat up his wife and was caught on tape doing it. He had some great songs, but as a person and human being, he doesn’t deserve that. He won’t be getting my signature. Sorry

Yea right, if we give him a street we might as well give Ike Turner a monument or statue, or hell a national holiday
