The state of Georgia has issued a new license plate that has riled up some citizens given the use of the controversial Confederate Flag. Considering the flag’s infamous history as an image of oppression and racism, civil rights activists have cried out in protest of the license plate.

Three men in Georgia are facing a number of charges after a 36-year-old woman survived a brutal attack from the group that involved rape, burning and a shooting. The woman was found in a vacant lot on New Year’s Day (January 1) and has since undergone hours of treatment for her injuries.

A Georgia pastor was found guilty Tuesday (January 21) of two counts of reckless HIV exposure, which is a felony. Craig Lamar Davis of Stone Mountain knowingly exposed two women to the disease after hiding his HIV-positive status from them.

Paul Oliver, a former defensive back for the University of Georgia and the San Diego Chargers was found dead Tuesday (Sept. 24) evening after an apparent self-inflicted gunshot inside a Marietta home. Oliver was 29, leaving behind a wife and two children.

A former college student who was arrested in February for making violent threats via Tumblr was given a five-year probation sentence Tuesday (August 20). The sentence also bars the student from using social media during that time as well.

Police have apprehended the suspect believed to have pulled the trigger, killing a 13-month-old baby boy in Brunswick, Ga., last week. Police say that an led to the arrest of 17-year-old De’Marquise Elkins,  who was taken into custody Saturday (March 23).
