In news that won’t shock anyone, the Justice Department has revealed in two reports that the Ferguson Police Department in Missouri routinely violated the civil and constitutional rights of Black citizens in the city.

In the wake of the police-related deaths of Eric Garner and Michael “Mike” Brown, NYPD commissioner Bill Bratton spoke on the historic injustices enacted upon Black people at the hands of cops. At a Tuesday (Feb. 24) gathering, Bratton said police have been involved in the “worst parts of Black history.”

The Chicago Police Department allegedly operates a “Black Site” warehouse facility in where officers interrogate, beat, and hold suspects for hours without due process. This facility, located on the city’s troubled west side, was the focus of an exclusive investigative report about the site which is similar to locations the CIA uses for terrorists.

Russian band Pussy Riot are best known as a group of feminist punk rockers who use their music and public demonstrations to rail against various injustices. Two members of Pussy Riot unleashed a new video which gives a nod to Eric Garner and checks the ugliness of police brutality.

Jerame Reid, a 36-year-old Black man who was shot and killed by New Jersey police last December, was seen on video surrendering to cops before they gunned him down. The video supports eyewitness accounts that the police acted hastily during the Dec. 30 traffic stop and that Reid posed no threat.

The Millions March Los Angeles protest event took place over the weekend, which was focused on the recent events nationwide concerning police brutality. Hip-Hop stars The Game, Tyga and DJ Mustard were among attendees at the march, with numbers estimated up to several thousand.

New York City mayor Bill de Blasio asked Monday (Dec. 22) that the citywide protests against police brutality be suspended in light of recent events. Mayor de Blasio has requested that the protests resume after the funerals of fallen NYPD officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu.
