White Supremacist Executed In Texas For Dragging Death Of James Byrd
Troy Davis wasn’t the only Death Row inmate executed on Wednesday.
Lawrence Russell Brewer, a white supremacist gang member, was put to death for his involvement in the dragging death of a black man 13 years ago in Texas.
While Davis’ execution was detailed roughly four years, Brewer was executed in Texas by lethal injection at 6:21 p.m. local time (7:21 p.m. EST).
According to reports, Brewer and two other white men kidnapped 49-year-old James Byrd on June 7, 1998.
They chained Byrd by the ankles to the back of a pickup truck and dragged him three and a half miles down a country road near Jasper, Texas.
James Byrd died from decapitation after he hit a culvert.
Brewer was a former member of “Exalted Cyclops,” a racist prison gang affiliated with the Ku Klux Klan.
Brewer’s execution was the 11th this year in the state of Texas, by far the most active death-penalty state.
