Beats By Dre caught up with recent Interscope signees Black Hippy while the Cali collective was at SXSW. Consisting of Top Dawg Entertainment artists Jay Rock, Ab-Soul, ScHoolboy Q and Kendrick Lamar, the crew offered some insight into their hustle.

“We have different fans but at the same time we have the same fans,” explained ScHoolboy Q. “We all have different personalities. ScHoolboy added that Ab-Soul is the genius of the crew and Kendrick is the Michael Jordan of the crew. Ab-Soul interjected that ScHoolboy Q is the the Puff Daddy of the clique while Jay Rock is the muscle.

When asked about the XXL Freshman cover he didn’t make this year, ScHoolboy said, “No shots, but ain’t none of them ni**as sold more records than me. I don’t feel like I’m a freshman.” The Cali rapper mentioned Kendrick and Jay Rock being XXL Freshman alumni and then said, “That was good. It’s just kind of corny for me to do it,” but quickly added, “I love XXL. But I would like to see a Black Hippy cover. That would be tight.”
