A Michigan record store owner has stumbled across the record and beat tape collection of one of the state’s most vaunted musical figures ever. Jeff Bubeck, co-owner of the UHF record store in the town of Royal Oak, has found himself on the Hip-Hop map after discovering a massive record collection said to belong to the late producer James “J Dilla” Yancey.  According to the Detroit News, Bubeck intends to sell off the 7,000-8,000 pieces of wax and even plans to give back a bit of what he’ll earn.

“Is it even possible?” remarked Bubeck after some investigation led him to discover that the records, lyric books, and magazines addressed to Dilla’s birth name belonged to the legendary beat maker. Bubeck also found several cassette tapes with the title “JayDee Beats” emblazoned upon them. “It was pretty shocking,” Bubeck said. “I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?'”

Bubeck reached out to Dilla’s former label Stones Throw although nothing was reported about their conversation. He also plans to share proceeds of the sales with the J Dilla Foundation, although attempts to contact Maureen “Ma Dukes” Yancey have so far been fruitless. Fans were able to snag a few pieces of wax last week on Record Store Day (April 21) after Bubeck sold a smattering of the collection. On UHF’s Facebook page, Dilla fanboys have been posting on the page’s wall, trying their best to snatch up the goods for themselves, especially the coveted collection of beats.
