The performance list for this year’s BET Awards just hit another high note. Having already announced sets from the likes of Usher, Nicki Minaj, and the G.O.O.D. Music crew, the cable channel has revealed that D’Angelo will take the stage.

D’Angelo has been making a slow decent back into the spotlight as of late, and his appearance at the awards show will likely fuel rumors that a new album is on it’s way.

Earlier in the month, the 38-year-old was the special guest of ?uestlove at the Bonnaroo Music Festival. “I wanted him to see that,”  The Roots drummer told the Associated Press, after the show.“That’s a green light. Me doing it wasn’t like running out of jam partners. Me doing it was basically showing him ‘Look you re missed yo don’t even realize how much you are missed,’ hoping that this will be the adrenaline boost that will finally get him to turn his record into a label. It’s done, it’s brilliant. I played on it. I know it’s brilliant. Now it’s just time to let his kids go and show it to the world. That’ what I’m here for.”

After being out of the public eye for several years, in an interview with GQ Magazine, D’Angelo–who has battled addiction– explained that the death of J Dilla encouraged him to change his life. “I felt like I was going to be next. I ain’t bullshitting. I was scared then,” he said.

Fans can tune in to D’Angelo’s performance when the 2012 BET Awards airs July 1 at 8 p.m. EST.
