Could a Hip-Hop friendly R&B crooner affiliated with Odd Future be stepping out the closet? Frank Ocean played his upcoming album, Channel Orange, for press in the UK and the blog ThisIsMax reports that the “Novacane” singer drops not so subtle hints about his  romantic preferences.

Frank has also opened up about his s-xuality on the album, we think it’s brave and admire him for being so honest and sharing such a personal aspect of his life through his music. On the songs ‘Bad Religion’ ‘Pink Matter and ‘Forrest Gump’ you can hear him sing about being in love and there are quite obvious words used like ‘him’ and not ‘her’.

The aforementioned “Pink Matter” is the song that features Andre 3000.

Just yesterday, Anderson Cooper went on record as a gay man. While Ocean’s coming out party, if it is indeed true, is not as formal as the CNN newsman’s, it will be interesting to see how the Hip-Hop community reacts to this news. Worth mentioning is Ocean’s affiliation with Odd Future, whose members include Tyler, The Creator and Earl Sweatshirt, and have never come off as particularly gay friendly; even considering lesbian member Syd Tha Kid.

Hip-Hop Wired asked the singer’s record label, Def Jam, for comment and have yet to receive a response. Frank Ocean’s debut, Channel Orange, is due in stores July 17th.
