Make no mistake about it, Omarion is loyal to his Maybach Music family. Having recently signed to Rick Ross’ imprint, the crooner solidified his commitment to his new team by inking his “Maybach O” nickname on his hand, not long after he was announced as the label’s newest member.
In the second half of Hip-Hop Wired’s exclusive interview with the 27-year-old, he revealed the reasoning behind getting tatted up in honor of MMG, and the decision was more well thought out than one would assume. “I’m really about getting [tattoos] of life work,” he says. Citing the tattoo of his mother as an example, Omarion explains that he would never get a tattoo that wasn’t meaningful. “I’m not just going to put art on my body with stuff that’s just spur of the moment.”
Only time will tell if joining MMG will offer a career resurgence for the former B2K leader singer, but Ross has proven himself in helping push artists to a higher level of success, like in the case of Wale. The D.C. rapper’s Attention Deficit debut sold 200,000 copies, and after severing ties with Interscope Records, he moved over to MMG and dropped his sophomore effort, Ambition, which has since earned a gold plaque for pushing over 500,000 units.
In crafting his forthcoming MMG debut— which he notes as a “body of work”— Omarion aims to put together a classic release. The untitled project is expected to drop later this year. “We’re looking at fourth quarter,” he continues. “We call that winner time, dinner time.”
