The madness over sneakers continues. This past weekend, two men were stabbed, and another injured, after getting into an altercation while waiting on line for the release of the Air Jordan VII “Olympic” colorway at the Laurel Mall near Hazleton, PA. According to WNEP, 19-year-old Carlos Mejia has been charged with aggravated assault for stabbing two men and injuring a teenager.
The incident went down around 1 a.m. when people, reportedly about a hundred, were lined up overnight waiting for the early a.m. release of the retro sneaker. When officers arrived, a 17-year-old was on the ground bleeding from the nose and being treated for a head injury. When he was taken to a nearby hospital, the authorities discovered that 19-year-old Christopher Vega was being treated for stab wounds. Finally, a Joel Hernandez, 21, arrived to the hospital with a stab wound to the stomach.
According the report, there was no security provided overnight by the mall. Mejia, who currently locked up with bail set at $100,000, was arrested after state troopers at the mall spotted him with blood on his hands.
But the craziest part? People were still lined up to cop their J’s after the stabbings.
“Maybe the sneakers should be produced more instead of having this problem,” said Peter Henriquez, who waited overnight and copped his kicks. “Cause It’s not the first time. It happens all over the United States. They say, ‘Oh, here’s 10 pairs,’ and you got 200 people outside. It becomes crazy.”
