Missy Elliott says she was never informed about a posthumous Aaliyah album. The singer/rapper/producer has been silent while Drake, Timbaland, and members of Aaliyah’s family spoke out about the project—until now.

Elliott responded to a fan’s tweet congratulating her on her involvement in the album with pure confusion. “I had no clue there was one, no 1 told me,” she replied, before deleting the post all together.

As previously reported, Jomo Hankerson who runs Blackground Records, and is also Aaliyah’s cousin, confirmed that Drake and Noah “40” Shebib will executive producer the release, which will feature more than a dozen songs from the late singer. Initially, Hankerson said that he and his father, Barry, were helming the project, before changing his story. He also made it clear that Timbaland will be involved, but apparently forgot to reach to  Elliott.

Last week rumors began to swirl that Drake approached Aaliyah’s estate to get his hands on her music. He released the song “Enough Said,” over the weekend, and during an interview with Much Music explained why he wanted to get involved. “It’s not about me, it’s not about 40, it’s really about her and her fans, and us getting the opportunity to give you something that we feel is great,” he said.

Timbaland also weighed in on the matter asking that Drake not go forward with the release without his and Elliott’s input.

With all the confusion, and ever-changing stories, it’s hard to figure exactly which account is accurate. If nothing else, all this chatter is only upping the level of anticipation behind the release.
