It was one of the most infamous interviews the Hip-Hop Internets had seen to date. In January 2006, Raymond “Benzino” Scott, then fresh from the sting of being removed from The Source magazine, conducted an interview with the good folks at AllHipHop.com. In this interview, Zino infamously swore that despite Black Enterprise buying the magazine out from under him and Dave Mays, he would nevertheless one day return “on a horse.” Urban legend has made it a “white horse” but it was just a horse, and the former Almighty RSO rapper was adamant in this belief.

Those cheap mother f**kers [former Source employees]. They always been clowns from day one, man. They always been guys that never could be accepted so like this is like their revenge right here. Watching me and Dave in the newspaper getting ousted in The Source. But, guess what, I’m coming back, yo. I’m coming back and I might come back on a f**king horse.

It never happened, though. Benzino and Dave Mays have moved on to Hip-Hop Weekly, but we still felt it was necessary to ask the former about that comment.

“The was a hard time for me, I was frustrated,” Benzino told Hip-Hop Wired. “And the media, everybody was really on me. You just try to lash back. I’ve learned that sometimes you just gotta be quiet, you keep your mouth shut. Lashing back just makes things worse.”

“I don’t have any white horse. The Source magazine is still doing their thing. I wish Kim [Osorio] and everybody up there the best. The white horse thing was just was probably just frustration of what was going on at the time. It would have been nice to come back on a white horse, though [laughs].”
