Spike TV will tribute the career of Eddie Murphy reports Deadline.com. The cable network will release the special produced by Don Mischer, who helmed this year’s Academy Awards of which the comedian was set to host.
The program, titled Eddie Murphy: One Night Only, the special will be taped in November. Celebrating 30 years since Murphy’s Delirious! and 48 Hrs., the show will be taped at Los Angeles’ Saban Theater. “Eddie’s impact on comedy is immeasurable,” said Viacom Media Networks Entertainment Group EVP of Event Production, Casey Patterson. “At 19, he changed the face of sketch comedy forever on Saturday Night Live, and within four years released 48 Hrs., Delirious, and Beverly Hills Cop, making him one of the biggest stand-up and movie stars in the world, and he’s never stopped evolving, innovating and entertaining.”
One Night Only, will showcase Murphy’s comedian career which he started at age 15, his tenure on Saturday Night Live, and feature appearances from co-stars in films like Trading Place, Coming to America, The Nutty Professor, and Shrek.
The two-hour special will include short films, sketch comedy, musical performances, and an appearance from Murphy.
Eddie Murphy: One Night Only airs Nov. 16.
