Marcus Jordan, son of NBA great Michael Jordan was fined $250 Thursday (Aug. 23) for disturbing the peace during an argument last month. According to Sports Illustrated, the fines stems from Marcus arguing with two women outside of an Omaha hotel.
Police responded to a disturbance call at an Embassy Suites hotel, in July. The younger Jordan was in town for the U.S. Olympic swim trials, and had a verbal disagreement with the women, one of whom was a friend of his girlfriend. Police characterized him as being “very animated, intoxicated, and uncooperative.”
Jordan handled the debt after pleading no contest to disturbing the peace, and was lauded by his attorney, Steve Lefler, for how he handled the incident. Unbeknownst to Jordan, the person who intervened in the argument was a security guard, and after things calmed down he went to the police station to apologize. “I can assure you, after 35 years of being a lawyer, it’s the first time I’ve ever heard of anybody going to the police station to apologize. He’s just been sweet kid to work with,” said Lefler.
Rather than entering a written plea, Jordan opted to travel to Nebraska for court because he “thought [the media] might go crazy” if he didn’t show up.
The shooting guard previously made news for costing the University of Central Florida $3 million when Adidas pulled its sponsorship, after Jordan refused to wear their sneakers.
