The shooting death of Milton Hall has landed in the national spotlight, and one local civil rights leader is demanding that the officers involved be fired. The Rev. Charles E. Williams II, president of the Michigan Chapter of the National Action Network, wants the six officers to face consequences for their actions.

“There’s no way in the world these officers should be getting paid by these taxpayers,” Williams said. “We’re going to fight for Milton Hall. We don’t know what he did, and maybe what he did was not right but he did not deserve to be killed in the street.”

Traveling to Saginaw, Mich. with his father, Rev. Charles E. Williams Sr., both men expressed their outrage towards  the many incidents of police brutality across the nation.

With only three minutes to make their case at the Saginaw City Hall, Williams Sr. was unhappy with the small time constraints. “The travesty is that when a life is taken you can’t allow [more than] three minutes? You have no respect for humanity,” he said.

Police shot Hall, who was carrying a knife, in early July. He was in a “karate stance” when he announced himself and encouraged officers to unleash an attack dog. Hall had a non-violent criminal record, and was known in the area by authorities, a fact which has cast further doubt into why such excessive force was used on the 49-year-old.

Williams Jr. and his father have promised to take their fight to a national platform, if the officers who shot Hall are not terminated.
