Sometimes promotional stunts work, and other times they fail miserably. BET learned this lesson the hard way when their plan to publicize their new show, Don’t Sleep With TJ Holmes, ended in a bomb scare.

The last night program will be a mixture of satirical news, but dealing with real issues. Journalist T.J. Holmes will helm the project. His resume includes a tenure with CNN, before quitting the news giant late last year.

In honor of the new program, the network sent huge clocks, similar to that of a bomb counting down, to two Los Angeles radio stations owned by CBS.

Rather than take a chance on being blown up, employees in the building opted to evacuate the Miracle Mile location housing the stations, KNX and KFWB, then the bomb squad was called.

Of course the clocks were found not to be dangerous, but let this be a lesson to BET, and whoever works in their promotional department, not to try to think too far outside the box when coming up with ideas to publicize their shows.

That said, Don’t Sleep With  T.J. Holmes debuts Oct. 1 at 11 p.m. EST.
