Lawyers for George Zimmerman have more bones to pick. The legal counsel for the accused killer filed a motion Monday (Oct. 16) claiming that prosecutors are taking their time with giving them evidence.

“The state’s approach to discovery has been to require the defense to figure out what the state has failed to provide and then ask for it rather than fulfilling the state’s legal obligation to provide complete and timely discovery,” attorney David West said in the motion.

In an attempt to curb the slow release of evidence potentially helpful to Zimmerman’s defense, his attorneys are calling for monthly hearings to keep track of the information turned over in the case. They are also asking for cell phone photos taken by an eyewitness and a police officer, on the night of the shooting that left 17-year-old Trayvon Martin dead.

Meanwhile, Martin’s parents are continuing their fight for justice in their son’s death, launching a website to help end Florida’s controversial “stand your ground” law. works to help “engage the discussion across the country regarding stand-your-ground laws and the need to revise them so that there is required judicial or prosecutorial review before decisions are mad.”

According to the site, 30,000 parents have lost children to gun violence, and the Change for Trayvon movement will help to shed light on cases that don’t get as much publicity.

Although initially citing the law as his defense for shooting the high-schooler, lawyers for Zimmerman sought to abandon the “stand your ground” notion, in place of self-defense. Attorney Mike O’Mara explained that the evidence in the case did not support “stand your ground,” and would muddle the perception of the events that led to Martin’s death.

Zimmerman asserts that he shot Martin after he was attacked by the teen, who was over 6 feet tall.
